Velma Jewell Poore Martin, formerly of Williamstown, KY passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the age of 83.

She was born in Pendleton County, KY on January 31, 1933. Jewell retired after 36 years of service with Western Southern Insurance Company, where she was an Executive Assistant. During the early part of Jewell’s career at Western Southern, she was a resident of the Anna Louise Inn, where she formed lifelong friendships. She was a hardworking professional woman who also helped her husband manage the family farm. Jewell was a very compassionate person who loved her family dearly.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of nearly 50 years, Emmett Randall Martin; beloved parents, Gliden Juett ”G.J” and Lena Florence Adams Poore and beloved step-mother, Pearl Harris Poore; sister, Wanda (Bill) Atha, and brother, Ralph (Jewell) Poore.

Jewell is survived by her brother, Dr. Floyd (Margie) Poore; great-niece, Miranda Nicole “Nikki” Marshall and her children; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, with a service to celebrate her life at 1:00 PM on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Burial will immediately follow at Williamstown Cemetery, Williamstown, KY.
