Obituary for Marvin Wendell Jackson

Marvin Wendell Jackson
Marvin Wendell Jackson, of Independence, KY passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the age of 91.

He was born in Paris, KY on November 22, 1924; the son of Joseph and Flora Jackson. Like so many young men of his generation, Wendell dedicated himself to the service of our nation as a member of the United States Navy during World War II. Wendell was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church for over 63 years and was a retired machinist from Newport Steel. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Latonia and was a skilled woodworker. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Wendell was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Elizabeth Damon; parents and beloved step-mother, Thelma Barnes Jackson and many brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his daughters, Jane (Paul) Fisher and Ruth Fischer; son, Alan (Janet) Jackson; sister, Mildred Hastings; brother, Charles Jackson; grandchildren, Brian (Jessica) Remole, Ann (Lester) Diaz, Laura (Doug) Summersett and Rachel (Eric) Criss; great-grandchildren, Cynthia Hopkins, Luci Diaz, Daniel Diaz and Madelyn Summersett; great-great grandson, Grayson Hopkins; as well as other relatives and friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, September 24, 2016 beginning 11:00 AM at Immanuel United Methodist Church, 2551 Dixie Hwy, Lakeside Park, KY 41017. Food and fellowship will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Wendell’s name may be given to St. Elizabeth Hospice, 483 S. Loop Drive, Edgewood, KY 41017 and/or an organization of the donor’s choosing.
